New funding sets stage for Convergence, a London-based startup that’s pushing the boundaries of artificial intelligence with the development of personal AI agents capable of learning through long-term memory.
The UK startup has raised a staggering $12 million in pre-seed funding, which will go towards further refining its innovative AI technology. At the heart of Convergence is its team of accomplished machine learning engineers, Marvin Purtorab and Andy Toulis, who serve as the company’s CEO and CTO, respectively.
The duo’s journey to Convergence began at Canadian e-commerce giant Shopify, where they worked alongside one another on developing recommender systems and AI assistants. Their time at Shopify laid the groundwork for their future endeavors in the world of AI. In 2023, both Purtorab and Toulis made the move to join forces with enterprise AI startup Cohere. However, their stint at Cohere was short-lived, as the two visionary entrepreneurs parted ways to pursue a new opportunity.
In April 2024, Purtorab and Toulis officially founded Convergence, surrounding themselves with a talented team of experts from some of the world’s most prominent AI research and development institutions, including Google DeepMind, Meta, and OpenAI. This dream team would play a pivotal role in helping Convergence realize its ambitious vision for the future of AI.
Convergence’s flagship technology is Proxy, an advanced AI agent designed for both personal and professional applications. As a cutting-edge AI-powered solution, Proxy boasts the ability to learn using long-term memory, much like the human brain. This crucial feature enables Proxy to efficiently automate administrative tasks, repetitive workflows, and other time-consuming processes, thereby greatly enhancing productivity.
Proxy’s impressive capabilities are twofold, catering to the diverse needs of both employees and consumers. On the employee side, Proxy can excel at automating routine tasks and workflows to free up time for more strategic pursuits. This feature alone could signal a paradigm shift in various industries, as employees will be able to focus on high-value tasks that foster innovation and growth.
For consumers, the advantages of Proxy AI are also substantial. By providing users with a highly personalized experience, Proxy can serve as an indispensable tool for managing daily tasks and activities, truly empowering individuals to take control of their digital lives. As this technology continues to advance, we may witness the emergence of AI-powered personal assistants that not only simplify our lives but also adapt to our changing needs over time.
While Convergence’s journey has just begun, the company’s early progress is heartening. With $12 million in funding and a talented team of engineers in tow, the stage is set for Proxy to revolutionize the world of personal AI agents. Whether or not Convergence’s innovative technology will be widely adopted remains to be seen. However, one thing is certain – this London-based startup is pushing the boundaries of AI research and redefining what we thought was possible with personal AI agents.
