6-0 Unstoppables: The Big 12 Midseason Surprises That Are Leaving Experts Speechless

October 16, 2024

The Big 12 hit the halfway point of this season with a pair of 6-0 teams. Neither ninth-ranked Iowa State or No. 13 BYU were considered preseason favorites, and yet here they are, steamrolling their way through the conference and leaving experts and fans in awe.

Iowa State’s success can be largely attributed to its stellar coaching staff, led by the incomparable Matt Campbell. Campbell was picked as the Big 12’s top coach in a recent AP vote, and it’s easy to see why. His team has shown incredible grit and determination this season, overcoming seemingly insurmountable odds and emerging victorious time and time again.

Another key factor in the Cyclones’ success has been the outstanding play of quarterback Shedeur Sanders. Sanders has been on absolute fire this season, leading his team to victory after victory with his clutch performances. He was voted the top player in the Big 12 in the same AP poll that named Campbell top coach, and it’s a testament to his incredible skill and dedication.

Meanwhile, No. 13 BYU is also making waves in the Big 12 this season. Like Iowa State, the Cougars were not expected to be major contenders coming into the year, but they’ve proven their doubters wrong. With a stifling defense and an offense that’s capable of putting up big points, BYU is a force to be reckoned with.

The fact that both Iowa State and BYU are currently undefeated at the midpoint of the season is a testament to the strength and depth of the Big 12. It’s a conference that’s full of talented teams and top-notch coaches, and it’s anyone’s guess who will emerge victorious come season’s end.

One thing is for sure, however: Shedeur Sanders and the Iowa State Cyclones are going to be a major factor in the Big 12 championship conversation. With their potent offense and stingy defense, they have all the ingredients necessary to make a deep run in the conference playoffs.

As for BYU, the Cougars will look to continue their winning ways as the second half of the season gets underway. With their impressive performance so far, they’ve established themselves as legitimate contenders for the Big 12 crown.

The second half of the season is shaping up to be an exciting one in the Big 12, with Iowa State and BYU leading the charge. Will they be able to maintain their momentum and emerge as conference champions, or will another team rise to the top? Only time will tell, but one thing is for sure: it’s going to be a wild ride.
