Alex Revell was left seething with anger and disappointment following his side's dismal performance in the 3-1 defeat at Crawley, a result that has raised serious concerns about the team's chances of success this season.
The Stevenage manager was visibly frustrated as he watched his team struggle to cope with the opposition's attacking prowess, and he didn't hold back in his post-match assessment of the display.
'Unacceptable' was the word Revell used to describe the performance, and it's hard to argue with that assessment given the manner in which his team capitulated in the face of adversity.
From the outset, it was clear that something was amiss, as Crawley dominated the opening exchanges and created a string of chances that ultimately led to the opening goal.
Despite a brief period of resistance, during which Stevenage managed to equalize, the visitors were ultimately unable to stem the tide of Crawley's attacks, and two further goals sealed their fate.
Revell was particularly scathing in his criticism of his team's defensive display, which he described as 'lackluster' and 'unprofessional'. He also bemoaned the lack of creativity and flair in midfield, where his team struggled to impose themselves on the game.
As the final whistle blew, Revell was seen remonstrating with his players on the pitch, clearly unhappy with the effort and application they had shown during the 90 minutes.
With this defeat, Stevenage's hopes of a successful season have taken a significant hit, and Revell knows that his team will have to regroup and refocus if they are to have any chance of achieving their goals.
The manager has promised to take a long, hard look at his team's performance and identify the areas that need improvement, and he will be expecting a much better display in their next outing.
For now, though, the focus will be on picking up the pieces and trying to move on from a truly forgettable performance.
As for Crawley, they will be delighted with the three points, which move them up the table and give them a welcome boost ahead of their next match.
Their victory was well-deserved, and they will be looking to build on this momentum as they seek to climb the ranks and establish themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the division.
