The space race is no longer just about the United States and Russia it is now being led by Asian countries and could potentially change the dynamics of the new world order The growing presence of Asian countries in space exploration is significantly changing the way the world operates The most prominent Asian players in the emerging global space race are China India Japan and South Korea They are not only making huge strides in building their own space infrastructure and conducting scientific experiments but also reaching out to other countries to collaborate on their ambitious programs
China has been in the spotlight for its grand ambitions to dominate the global space program by the 2040s Its space program is largely focused on military defense surveillance and commercial satellite launches India s space agency the Indian Space Research Organisation ISRO has been working towards sending a manned mission to the moon by 2023 which will also include a woman as one of the astronauts Japan s space agency has been conducting its own scientific space missions including an experiment to deflect asteroids to change the course of a potentially hazardous asteroid that is headed towards Earth by using a kinetic impactor South Korea also plans to launch its first indigenous lunar orbiter in August 2022
The rise of Asian countries in the space sector is drawing global attention and it is not just about individual ambitions These countries are collaborating and partnering with each other and with other countries to increase their presence in space exploration For instance India and France are collaborating to send a joint mission to the sun while China and Russia are collaborating to send a joint mission to the far side of the moon
This trend is likely to continue as more and more countries focus on building their capabilities in the strategic space sector As they develop and launch new technologies and collaborate on shared goals the dynamics of the space race is shifting from being US centric to being more inclusive and diverse
The Asian space race also has geopolitical implications as it unfolds As the influence of Asian countries grows their role in shaping the new world order will become more significant which could lead to new diplomatic geopolitical shifts and alignments While no one can predict what the future of space exploration will hold one thing is clear this century will belong to Asia in the space sector
