Akshay Kumar-starrer Tirangaa has been making headlines for quite some time now, and the latest update on the film is sure to excite fans even more. It's been confirmed that the film won't be a remake of the 1993 film of the same name starring Nana Patekar and Raaj Kumar, and the latest news is that it'll be directed by the critically acclaimed Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan.
Earlier, there were reports doing the rounds that Tirangaa was going to be a remake, but these were promptly denied by the film's producers, including Ashvin Varde, Subhash Kale and Narendra Hirawat, who also clarified that it would be an entirely new and original script.
According to a source close to the film, Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan was chosen to direct the film after a lot of deliberation, given his experience with helming films like Lahore (2010) and 72 Hoorain (2023), both of which won National Awards. His past work, along with the ability to give a film a commercial treatment, made the producers opt for him as the director.
It's worth noting that this isn't the first time that Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan and Akshay Kumar have been associated with each other on a film. In the past, Sanjay was supposed to direct Akshay in a film called Gorkha, produced by Aanand L Rai, which eventually got shelved due to technical issues. Another notable project of his that got shelved was the Sushant Singh Rajput-starrer Chandamama Door Ke.
Tirangaa is expected to start filming by December 2024. As of now, not much is known about the film's plot or supporting cast. Fans of Akshay Kumar, however, will be excited to see him team up with the acclaimed director to create something new and interesting.
