Bob Costas' Jaw-Dropping Blunder On Live TV Has Fans Fuming

October 10, 2024

Bob Costas isn’t doing himself any favors with the way he’s been calling the Yankees-Royals ALDS, and that was true again during the bottom of the eighth in Game 3 on Wednesday night. The long-time veteran announcer made a brutal mistake while describing an unreal diving catch by Anthony Volpe.

The Yankees shortstop left fans on their feet after making a spectacular play that showcased his lightning-fast reflexes and impressive fielding skills. However, it seemed that Costas wasn’t quite on the same page as the action happening on the field.

The reaction on social media was fast and furious, with many calling out Costas for his lackluster commentary. Some even questioned whether he was paying enough attention to the game, or if he simply wasn’t aware of the incredible play that Volpe made.

This isn’t the first time that Costas has been in the hot seat during his post-season broadcasting stint. His mistakes have become somewhat of a staple for the ALDS series, leaving many to wonder if he’s lost a step or two in his older age.

Thanks to Volpe’s unbelievable catch, the mood in the stadium was electric. But much to the dismay of fans watching at home, Costas failed to convey that same excitement and energy to the viewers. Instead, what they were met with was an uninspired description of an otherwise thrilling moment in the game.

Costas’ lackluster commentary raises concerns about the state of live sports broadcasting. When an iconic announcer like Costas makes mistakes, it not only detracts from the viewing experience but also has the potential to taint the excitement of pivotal moments like Volpe’s insane catch.

Despite these mishaps, the Kansas City Royals ultimately fell to the Yankees in the series. For those who tuned in to watch the thrilling matchup, however, they were likely left feeling that Costas’ mistakes took some of the magic away from the on-field action.
