Dia Mirza has been making waves in the entertainment industry with her candid confessions about her experiences in Bollywood. The Miss Asia Pacific winner, who has appeared in a slew of hit films and was recently seen in the film IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack, recently sat down to discuss the challenges she and her peers faced in the early 2000s.
According to Mirza, the primary fear that she and many other young actresses during that time harbored was managing their weight. It seems that having a perfectly sculpted body was a prerequisite for success in the industry, with many actresses facing extreme pressure to look a certain way.
'Every single actress was told to have a certain weight,' Mirza admitted, bringing up painful memories of the strenuous weight loss regimens that she and others endured at the hands of pressure from various quarters, including producers, directors, and even managers.
The pressure took such a toll on many actresses that their careers suffered due to lack of a properly planned weight management strategy as well as mental stress and pressure affecting their health. In hindsight, Mirza admits that these expectations put her life and the lives of others in danger. 'the pressure was overwhelming, physical and mental and emotional. I mean, we needed to be size two girls' she said.
When questioned about possible solutions to this widespread industry malaise, the humbling actress expressed her conviction that cultivating a society of strong women who feel comfortable expressing themselves is the most significant step that could be taken away fear from young girls who aspire to turn actresses all should take: ' we need to stop telling all these little girls out there that aurat ho to shelf life hai.'
Throughout her career, Dia has shown us that building an honest dialogue around how industry stressors can affect artists is essential to a bright artistic career rather than solely beauty standards in winning life as well as work. In line with her previous, less guarded message that was conveyed well to aspiring generation actors' as she revealed working being actress over time could improve the lives of strong women actors who want the way of growing.
