BREAKING Deacon Demolition Claiborne Unleashes Devastating Performance To Down UConn

October 20, 2024

EAST HARTFORD Ct. (AP) Demond Claiborne was the name on everyone’s lips Saturday evening at Rentschler Field in East Hartford Connecticut. The Wake Forest star running back had an incredible outing against UConn notching a pair of touchdowns that propelled the Demon Deacons to a thrilling 23-20 victory.

The UConn Huskies looked solid early on and gave Wake Forest all they could handle. Both teams were evenly matched throughout the first half trading blows on their way to a deadlock. But Claiborne had different plans. The elusive back came out in the second half with renewed determination and was a nightmare for the UConn defense. He dodged and weaved his way through would-be tacklers tormenting the Huskies with his dazzling array of moves.

The pair of touchdowns Claiborne notched were instrumental in the outcome and proved to be the deciding factor in the end. The standout performance even drew praise from UConn coach Jim Mora who couldn’t help but marvel at Claiborne’s amazing talent. “We knew going into the game that Claiborne was going to be tough to stop but man did he put on a show today. That kid is special and Wake Forest is lucky to have him on their roster,” Mora said during a post-game press conference.

Claiborne’s spectacular outing however wouldn’t have been possible without the outstanding effort from the Wake Forest defense. Down by a field goal late in the fourth quarter the UConn offense found themselves deep in Wake Forest territory with only a few ticks remaining on the clock. But a goal-line stand by the Demon Deacons – who pounced on an errant UConn snap and snuffed out a desperate Husky fourth-down attempt – thwarted a potential UConn comeback bid and sealed the win for Wake Forest.

“I thought our defense really stepped up in the final minutes to make a huge stop when we needed it most,” Wake Forest coach Dave Clawson said. “It was a gritty win but ultimately the kind we needed to keep us rolling forward this season.”
