Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 remained hoisted over 24 areas in Luzon on Tuesday morning, August 29, as Tropical Depression Gener made landfall, bringing with it strong winds and heavy rainfall.
According to the latest update from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Gener slightly weakened as it passed through the mountainous regions of the Cordilleras.
As of 4:00 am on Tuesday, the center of Tropical Depression Gener was estimated to be at 110 km northwest of Baguio City, with maximum sustained winds of up to 45 km/h and gustiness of up to 60 km/h.
Despite the slight weakening, PAGASA warned that Gener is still expected to bring moderate to heavy rainfall in the affected areas, which may lead to flash flooding and landslides.
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 is still in effect over the following areas: Abra, Apayao, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Aurora, Bataan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac, Zambales, La Union, Pangasinan, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Cagayan, Isabela, Batanes, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, and northern portion of Quezon including Polillo Islands.
Residents in these areas are advised to take necessary precautions and stay vigilant for any signs of flooding and landslides.
PAGASA is closely monitoring the movement and development of Gener and will provide regular updates on the storm's progress.
