Paul Gascoigne, a former England international, has expressed his sympathy for Erik ten Hag, the current manager of Manchester United, as the Red Devils continue to struggle in the English Premier League.
Ten Hag is under immense pressure to salvage his job at the club due to the team's dismal performance in the league and other competitions, leaving fans and pundits alike calling for his head.
However, Gascoigne, who had a storied career with various clubs, including Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur, has taken a different approach and surprisingly called for the return of Sir Alex Ferguson to the helm of Manchester United.
Ferguson, a legendary Scottish manager, previously spent 27 years at Manchester United, winning an astonishing 38 trophies, including 13 Premier League titles, two UEFA Champions League titles, and numerous domestic cups.
While the idea of Ferguson returning to the club may seem far-fetched, given his previous 27-year tenure at the Red Devils and his current age, Gascoigne's suggestion highlights the growing desperation among Manchester United fans and players for a figure to stabilize the side and lead it back to its former glory.
Gascoigne, in a recent interview, admitted that he felt sorry for Ten Hag, stating that the Dutch manager has inherited significant problems at Old Trafford, which have been plaguing the team for several years.
Ten Hag has had to deal with the inconsistent performances of some of the team's high-profile players, which have contributed to Manchester United's inability to string together a significant winning streak.
As things stand, the Red Devils are many points off the top of the Premier League table, with some sections of the fans having already written off the team's chances of winning the title this season.
With the pressure mounting on Ten Hag, it remains to be seen whether he can turn things around at Manchester United and steer the team back to its winning ways, or if he will become the latest managerial casualty at Old Trafford.
One thing is certain, however: Paul Gascoigne's suggestion of Sir Alex Ferguson returning to Manchester United may seem unconventional, but it highlights the urgent need for a change in the team's fortunes, and fans can only hope that the powers that be at Old Trafford can put aside their differences and work towards stabilizing the team.
