Breaking News: Punjab Cracks Down on Food Adulterators in Mass Raids

October 12, 2024

LAHORE - In a major crackdown on food adulteration, the Punjab government has launched a series of massive raids across the province, catching culprits off guard and sending shockwaves through the industry.

The move, part of a comprehensive plan to ensure the quality of edible items, has marked an unprecedented phase in the province’s war on food adulteration. The drive, which commenced several weeks ago, is aimed at combating unscrupulous elements that have been playing with the health of citizens by adulterating food items.

According to sources, the initiative is expected to yield positive results in the long run as it will help minimize health risks associated with consumption of adulterated food items. The campaign, spearheaded by the Punjab Food Authority (PFA), has already led to the seizure of massive quantities of adulterated food products, besides sealing hundreds of eateries and food outlets across the province.

The PFA has also filed over 5,000 cases against food vendors and restaurants found to be involved in adulteration. Amid strict checks, the authority has been conducting surprise raids at food outlets, wholesale markets, and rural areas to detect and deter food adulteration.

As part of its sustained efforts to clamp down on unscrupulous elements involved in food adulteration, the PFA has established several vigilance cells. The cells, comprising officials and complaint redress officers, have been set up in every district to oversee daily operations, besides ensuring the monitoring of production units.

The primary goal of this campaign is to control food adulteration by launching rigorous checks across the province. In addition to immediate punishment to unscrupulous elements involved in food adulteration, the initiative also aims at educating food handlers about cleanliness and safe food handling practices.

By implementing the Food Safety and Standards Act in its true spirit, the Punjab government has geared up to root out food adulteration. With such a clear-minded and extensive action plan, Punjab is set to become a role model for other provinces and a source of inspiration in spearheading the war against food adulteration across the country.
