ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — The life of an NFL player can be a real rollercoaster of emotions. One day, you're on top of the world with a lucrative contract extension in your pocket, and the next, you're losing a close friend and teammate to another team. Such was the weekend of Denver Broncos linebacker Jonathon Cooper, who experienced both ends of the spectrum in a span of just a few days.
On one hand, Cooper had plenty of reason to celebrate after signing a new contract extension with the Broncos. The details of the deal have not been made public, but it's no doubt a significant investment in the young linebacker, who has quickly become a key member of Denver's defense.
However, Cooper's joy was short-lived, as he soon found out that his longtime friend and teammate Baron Browning had been traded to the Arizona Cardinals. The news was a devastating blow to Cooper, who had grown close to Browning over their time together in Denver.
Cooper and Browning had formed a strong bond both on and off the field. They had been through thick and thin together, supporting each other through the ups and downs of their NFL careers. To see his friend leave the team was a difficult pill for Cooper to swallow.
"It's tough to see a guy like Baron go," Cooper said in an interview. "We've been through so much together, and he's more than just a teammate to me. He's a brother, and it's hard to imagine not having him by my side on the field every Sunday."
Despite the emotions, Cooper is trying to stay focused on the task at hand. With the new season just around the corner, Cooper knows that he needs to put his feelings aside and get back to work. He's been working hard in training camp, determined to help the Broncos make a deep run in the playoffs.
"It's not going to be easy, but I know I have to move on," Cooper said. "I owe it to myself, my teammates, and the organization to give it my all and make the most of this season. I'm excited to see what the future holds, and I know that Baron will always be with me in spirit."
