Bruins Pull Off Jaw Dropping Upset Against Panthers In Thrilling Overtime Finish

January 12, 2025

SUNRISE — The Florida Panthers controlled the play throughout Saturday’s rivalry game with the Boston Bruins yet could not find a way to win this one. Boston ended a six-game winless streak by sticking around long enough to pounce when it got the chance in a 4-3 overtime win against the Panthers.

The Panthers dominated the ice, outshooting the Bruins and creating multiple scoring opportunities, but Boston goalie Jeremy Swayman was a brick wall, making incredible saves to keep his team in the game. Despite being outplayed, the Bruins waited for their moment to strike, and when it came, they capitalized on their chances.

The first period saw the Panthers come out strong, with their high-powered offense firing on all cylinders. They created multiple scoring opportunities, but Swayman was equal to the task, making several impressive saves to keep the game scoreless. The Bruins, on the other hand, struggled to find their footing, but they managed to weather the storm and keep the game tied after one period.

The second period was more of the same, with the Panthers controlling the play and the Bruins hanging on for dear life. However, Boston began to find its footing, creating a few scoring opportunities of its own. The Panthers finally broke through midway through the period, but the Bruins responded shortly thereafter, tying the game and setting the stage for a thrilling finish.

The third period was a back-and-forth affair, with both teams creating scoring chances. The Panthers took the lead, but the Bruins tied it up, sending the game to overtime. In the extra frame, the Bruins pounced on a mistake by the Panthers and scored the winning goal, ending their six-game winless streak and sending their fans into a frenzy.

The win was a much-needed boost for the Bruins, who had been struggling to find their form in recent games. Swayman was the hero of the night, making 42 saves to earn the win. The Panthers, on the other hand, were left to ponder what could have been, as they dominated the game but came up just short.

Despite the loss, the Panthers can take solace in the fact that they played a strong game and were unlucky not to come away with the win. They will look to bounce back in their next game, while the Bruins will try to build on their momentum and start a new winning streak.
