Can Dak Prescott Outgun Joe Burrow on Primetime Monday Night Football?

December 6, 2024

The Dallas Cowboys week 14 matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals is on Monday night football this week, and both teams are surely not where they wanted to be when the season started.

With hopes of making the playoffs fading away by the minute, the Cowboys are trying to avoid another disappointing loss, particularly at the hands of a fellow struggling opponent in the Bengals.

The Bengals, like the Cowboys, started the season with high expectations but have fallen far short due to numerous factors. Cincinnati struggled heavily with injuries and poor defensive play, particularly in the secondary.

Meanwhile, in the Big D, turnovers and missed opportunities have hindered the Cowboys greatly. Given that both teams have produced less-than-stellar results this season, Monday night football's matchup is crucial for both the Cowboys and Bengals.

Perhaps the most significant key in this impending matchup lies in the arms of Joe Burrow, the Bengals' second-year quarterback, and Dak Prescott, Dallas's seventh-year quarterback.

Prescott has faced his fair share of ups and downs throughout the season. With significant injuries and inconsistent performances by skill players on offense, it's been tough for the Dallas quarterback to get anything going on a consistent basis.

Now that several players are back and healthy, it's high time for the Cowboys to showcase their explosive offense on a big stage like Monday night football.

Prescott's matchup against Cincinnati's secondary could promise great rewards for the former. The possibility of Dallas capitalizing on that particular weakness by Cincinnati is quite compelling, particularly with wideouts like CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup on his side.

'Big-play machine' is what the Bengals' secondary has shown this season. In 44.2% of throws, an opposing quarterback has generated an explosive play, but the defensive backs of the Bengals can definitely hang their heads low for this.

The 19.5% (4th) Passing Explosive Play Percentage Allowed would benefit Prescott who needs an outstanding game and will undoubtedly pose an immense threat to the Bengals' already vulnerable pass defenses.

The question remains: Can Cowboys' offense live up to its potential and go score for score with Joe Burrow? Only time would tell as one of the most highly-scrutinized games thus far is merely around the corner for both teams.
