It has been revealed that Kaizer Chiefs had the golden opportunity to sign the bright and talented Fiston Mayele, before snapping up Nasreddine Nabi, but Amakhosi turned him down due to believing he was over the hill at the time.
According to credible sources, Chiefs did indeed have the opportunity to capture the signing of the lethal striker, who was in search of a new challenge. However, following a series of discussions, the Glamour Boys deemed the player to be too old to make the desired impact at Naturena.
Interestingly, it is believed that Mayele would have undoubtedly been a worthy partner to the prolific Samir Nurković upfront. However, the fact that Chiefs decided against signing him is now evident that the club's decision to reject him potentially led to Mayele joining their rivals.
Obviously, this bombshell has raised plenty of eyebrows within the South African football fraternity, with many astonished by the revelation that Chiefs could have landed the hitman. Instead, the Glamour Boys snapped up Algeria forward Nabi. Although, it's worth mentioning that this is all water under the bridge now, as there's no doubt the striker would be a wonderful addition to an already strong Chiefs side.
Chief's supporters were no doubt disappointed by the news that their team turned down a player of Mayele's calibre, but for now, the only thing that matters is their club's performance on the field. Nabi, has, however, shown glimpses of brilliance in recent matches and we can only hope that it continues.
