Cignal HD Spikers Prove Doubters Wrong With Stunning Sweep Over Galeries

The Cignal HD Spikers have once again shown their resilience and determination in the face of adversity, sweeping the Galeries squad in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) 2024-25 All-Filipino Conference. Despite being undermanned due to the loss of key players Ces Molina and Riri Meneses, the HD Spikers managed to rise above the challenges and secure a convincing 25-17, 25-20, 25-19 win over their young opponents.

The victory marked a return to the winning column for Cignal, who now boast a 5-1 win-loss card. On the other hand, the Galeries fell to a 1-6 slate, highlighting the significant gap between the two teams. The HD Spikers' exceptional floor defense was a key factor in their success, with Dawn Catindig tallying an impressive 19 excellent digs and four excellent receptions.

According to head coach Shaq Delos Santos, the team's ability to compose themselves and manage all situations was crucial in their victory. "I composed myself first, and as a coach I have to manage all situations. I am proud of the team, since the performance is there, and they are enjoying. Actually, they are doing better, they are committing," he said during the post-game interview. Delos Santos also praised the outstanding performances of Ishi Lalongisip and Judith Abil, who stepped up in the absence of Molina and Meneses.

Vanie Gandler was another standout player for Cignal, scoring 17 points and leading the team to victory. Jacq Acuña, Abil, and Lalongisip also made significant contributions, each adding nine points to the tally. In contrast, the Galeries struggled to find their rhythm, with no double-digit scorers in the match. Ysa Jimenez and Julia Coronel were the top scorers for the team, but their combined effort of 16 points was not enough to change the outcome of the game.

The news of Molina and Meneses' departure from Cignal had sent shockwaves through the volleyball community, with their talent agency Avior Talent Management announcing its departure from the team on January 6.
