Cowboys Kicker Ditches Courtroom for the Gridiron But Will He Be Ready for the 49ers?

October 25, 2024

The mid-week chaos that surrounded the Dallas Cowboys looked to be subsiding as kicker Brandon Aubrey made a comeback to the practice field after missing out on a couple of crucial days due to a rather unexpected reason - jury duty. On Wednesday, concerns simmered as Aubrey stood absent, stirring an understandable furor among the team management and fans regarding his potential participation in the upcoming clash against the San Francisco 49ers.

However, with an unexpected turn of events and in time for the team to regroup and head towards California, a sigh of relief echoed through FRISCO, the Texas premises of the Dallas Cowboys. Aubrey managed to complete his late-day training, allowing him to be available for the impending encounter in San Francisco, at least that was what head coach Mike McCarthy divulged during a press conference on Thursday.

Brandon Aubrey made it back into practice later in the day, piecing together a comprehensive session once he wrapped up his required stint on jury duty. Aubrey apparently tried juggling his court commitments with professional obligations. Coach McCarthy reportedly acknowledged his dedication to blending both courthouse and gridiron routines and implied his kicker would get enough recovery time before linking up with the rest of the team to take on the task of defeating the 49ers in San Francisco.

When quizzed about the bizarre nature of missing practice for jury duty McCarthy answered it as one of those things you have to navigate in real life. According to him, the response of Aubrey warranted appreciation and admiration for the ability to tackle twin challenges given to him on short notice. The seemingly effortless balance between fulfilling professional commitments and the commitment of an obligated responsibility toward civic duty has made Aubrey an attractive epitome of how pro athletes could dabble in multiple realms.
