SAN DIEGO — It’s been one year since the San Diego Union-Tribune began the hike of the week series, and I’m excited to take a step back and reflect on the highlights of this journey so far. With over 52 hikes under our belt, it’s no easy task narrowing down my top picks, but I’ve managed to select my top 10 favorite San Diego County hikes from the last year.
What makes a hike stand out from the rest? For me, it’s the combination of stunning views, unique landscapes, and the thrill of exploring the great outdoors. Over the past year, we’ve had the privilege of traversing some of the most beautiful and diverse terrain that San Diego County has to offer. From the rugged peaks of the Cuyamaca Mountains to the serene shores of La Jolla Cove, each hike has left an indelible mark on my memory.
So, without further ado, let’s dive into my top 10 favorite San Diego County hikes from the last year. Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or just starting to explore the great outdoors, I hope this list will inspire you to lace up your hiking boots and hit the trails.
10. Iron Mountain Trail
This 6.4-mile out-and-back hike offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape and is a great introduction to the beauty of San Diego County’s mountains. The scenic trail winds its way up to the summit of Iron Mountain, providing stunning vistas of the valley below.
9. Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve
