Recently one of my daughters and her family were in the candy-making town of Hershey, Penn.. As part of their experience at that place, they had the opportunity to make their own special candy bars. If I understand it correctly, each member of the family was given the freedom to choose from a wide variety of ingredients and create their own unique candy bar, tailored to their individual tastes.
This experience got me thinking about the concept of Christlikeness and how it relates to our lives as believers. Just as the candy bars were customized to the individual preferences of each family member, our walks with God are also personalized and tailored to our unique experiences and circumstances.
However, just as a candy bar can only be as good as the ingredients that go into it, our Christlikeness can only be as strong as the efforts we put into nurturing our relationship with God. If we fill our lives with unhealthy habits and ungodly influences, we cannot expect to produce a strong and pleasing aroma of Christlikeness.
In the same way that a skilled candy maker carefully selects and combines ingredients to create a delicious and visually appealing treat, we must be intentional about the choices we make in our lives. We must choose to prioritize time with God, to surround ourselves with positive influences, and to cultivate healthy habits that promote spiritual growth.
As I reflected on my daughter's experience in Hershey, I was reminded of the importance of being mindful of the ingredients that go into our lives. Just as a single rotten ingredient can spoil an entire batch of candy, a single unhealthy habit or ungodly influence can undermine our entire walk with God.
So let us be diligent to examine our lives and to identify any ingredients that may be hindering our Christlikeness. Let us be intentional about making choices that promote spiritual growth and that honor God. And let us remember that our walks with God are personalized and tailored to our unique experiences and circumstances, so we must be patient and gracious with ourselves as we navigate the ups and downs of life.
As we strive to become more like Christ, let us not excuse our lack of Christlikeness. Instead, let us take ownership of our spiritual growth and development, and let us be committed to making progress, no matter how small, every day. For it is through this commitment and dedication that we will become the unique and delicious creations that God has designed us to be.
