England centurion Ben Duckett has stirred up a storm with his prediction of an action-packed day three in the second Test, as the Multan pitch is expected to deteriorate and unleash a maelstrom of spin that could send shockwaves throughout the cricket world.
The 28-year-old England opening batsman, fresh from his impressive century against Pakistan, has warned that the hosts' gamble of preparing a spin-friendly pitch in Multan could come back to haunt them, as the surface threatens to deliver more unpredictability than ever before.
The pitch, which has already shown signs of wear and tear after just two days of play, is expected to decline at an alarming rate, creating a minefield of cracks and crevices that could make batting a hazardous affair.
Speaking to media representatives on the eve of day three, Duckett observed that the Pakistan team management's decision to prepare a surface with plenty of turn could prove disastrous for their own batsmen, and he expects to see some breathtaking moments on day three.
'The Multan pitch has already shown signs of deterioration, and with another day of play under the scorching sun, it could become even more treacherous,' Duckett said, highlighting the challenges that both England and Pakistan could face in the remainder of the Test.
'Our batters have already encountered some uneven bounce, and we expect it to get worse on day three. The Pakistan bowlers will also have to contend with the tricky surface, which could swing the match in our favor,' the England opener added.
Pakistan, who have a 174-run lead with eight wickets in hand, will hope to pile on some more runs and build a sizeable lead in their bid to level the series. However, with the conditions becoming increasingly difficult, their batsmen will have to be at their very best to survive the trial by fire that awaits them on day three.
The England team, meanwhile, is hoping to capitalize on the deteriorating conditions and snap up some crucial wickets to take control of the Test. With Duckett's prediction of drama and Pakistan's suspect batting line-up, the stage is set for a thrilling day three that could potentially turn the tide of the match in favor of either side.
One thing is certain – with the conditions as they are, cricket fans are in for a real treat on day three, as the best of both teams come together to navigate the treacherous pitch and emerge victorious in the end.
