iOS 18 is set to be released to the general public soon, but the real excitement begins with the rollout of Apple Intelligence features in the subsequent updates. Starting with iOS 18.1, Apple will introduce a slew of innovative features that will change the way we interact with our iPhones.
According to Apple's website and rumors, the first wave of Apple Intelligence features will include several Siri enhancements, such as improved understanding for follow-up requests and stammered speech. Additionally, users can expect to see writing tools for rewriting, summarizing, and proofreading text, as well as notification summaries for Messages, Mail, and other apps.
Other exciting features in iOS 18.1 include suggested replies in the Messages and Mail apps, a new Clean Up tool in the Photos app that uses generative AI to remove unwanted people or objects from photos, and the ability to create a Memories movie in the Photos app by typing a description. Phone call recording and transcription will also be available, along with a new Focus mode called Reduce Interruptions that surfaces important notifications only. Article summaries will also be available when using Reader Mode in the Safari app.
But that’s not all - iOS 18.2, which is expected to be released in December, will expand Apple Intelligence to more English-speaking countries, including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, and the UK. This update will also introduce Image Playground and Genmoji, two features that were previewed earlier this year. Image Playground will allow users to generate images based on descriptions, suggested concepts, and even people from their Photos library, while Genmoji will enable users to create custom emojis that match any conversation.
Another significant feature coming to iOS 18.2 is ChatGPT integration with Siri. With user permission, Siri will be able to show ChatGPT answers directly in response to questions and other prompts. ChatGPT will also be an option for Apple’s system-wide Writing Tools feature, allowing users to generate text and images. Moreover, iPhone, iPad, and Mac users will be able to use ChatGPT for free without creating an account, and ChatGPT Plus subscribers will be able to connect their accounts to access paid features on these devices.
Lastly, iOS 18.4, which is expected to be released in March, will include many of the new Siri features, such as personal context, on-screen awareness, and deeper per-app controls. Apple Intelligence will also gain support for additional languages, including Chinese, French, Japanese, and Spanish. With these updates, Apple is set to revolutionize the smartphone industry and take user experience to a whole new level.
