Kaizer Chiefs captain Yusuf Maart is confident that the club's new technical team, led by coach Nabi, has what it takes to end the long-standing trophy drought that has plagued the team for nearly a decade.
The Glamour Boys have been chasing silverware for 10 years, and it seems like an eternity since they last tasted victory. However, with the arrival of Nabi, the team's new head coach, the atmosphere at Naturena has shifted from one of despair to one of optimism.
Maart, one of the most decorated players in the Chiefs' lineup, expressed his excitement about the new season and the possibility of winning trophies under Nabi's guidance. He believes that the club's new coach is the right man to bring back the glory days to Kaizer Chiefs.
'He (Nabi) is an aggressive coach who has a clear vision for the team. He knows exactly how to get the best out of his players, and his passion for the game is something that the players feed off,' Maart said.
When asked about what has been lacking in the team's past attempts to win silverware, Maart pointed out that the club's consistency has been a major issue. According to the midfielder, the team has always shown promise but fails to deliver when it matters most.
'In the past, we've had great players who could win games for us on their own, but we've lacked consistency as a team. Nabi has been working hard to change that, and I believe that we have the depth and talent in the squad to seriously contend for trophies,' Maart added.
The Chiefs' players have been working hard in pre-season to get themselves ready for the new campaign. According to Maart, Nabi has introduced new methods and training techniques that have taken the team by surprise. He claims that the methods are paying dividends and that the team is looking stronger than ever before.
'The training has been intense, but it's the type of intensity that we needed. We've had some tough sessions, but the boys are responding well to the new coach and his methods,' Maart said.
One major plus for the Glamour Boys is the signing of some key players in the current transfer window. The new recruits have added depth and competition to the squad, which has raised the morale of the entire team.
With the Carling Knockout tournament just around the corner, Kaizer Chiefs will have the perfect opportunity to test their mettle against some of the best teams in the Premier Soccer League. If they win the tournament, it will be their first major trophy in almost a decade, which would be an excellent start to the season.
Maart believes that the Carling Knockout tournament will be a great indicator of how the team will perform in the upcoming season. A victory in the tournament would alleviate some of the pressure and expectation on the team and give them the confidence to push on and challenge for more trophies.
Looking forward to the season ahead, the Kaizer Chiefs captain hopes that the team can build on the progress they made last season and take it to the next level. With Nabi at the helm, he is confident that they can compete against the likes of Orlando Pirates and Sundowns for the league title.
The future looks bright for Kaizer Chiefs under the guidance of Nabi, and the club's millions of fans will be hoping that the team can finally bring back the glory days of the past.
