Two free weekends in a row in the fall are a rare treat for most families these days, and ours is no exception. As I mentioned last week, we love a good day trip at this time of year because it is usually not too hot to be in a car for a few hours, and not too cold to enjoy some outdoor activities once we arrive at our destination.
This past weekend was the perfect opportunity for us to sneak in some quality family time. With our busy schedules and extracurricular activities that fill our weeknights, finding a day off where we can all spend time together can sometimes feel like searching for a needle in a haystack. But when we do find that elusive block of time, we like to make the most of it.
Which brings us to one of our favorite fall activities: apple picking! There's something special about breathing in that crisp autumn air, walking through the rows of trees bursting with juicy apples, and picking the perfect ones to take home. It's a tradition that never gets old for us, and we look forward to it every year.
We packed a picnic lunch and set off early in the morning to make the most of our day. The sun was shining, the air was cool, and the kids were bubbling with excitement as we made our way to the apple orchard. As we walked through the entrance, we were greeted by the friendly owner of the farm, who gave us a brief overview of the varieties of apples available for picking and the best spots to find the ripest ones.
The kids took off running, racing to see who could find the biggest, reddest apple. My husband and I followed close behind, laughing at their antics and taking in the picturesque scenery around us. The orchard was bustling with families, but it never felt overcrowded or chaotic. Everyone seemed to be in high spirits, enjoying the beautiful day and the simple pleasure of picking their own apples.
We spent a few hours at the orchard, and by the time we left, our baskets were overflowing with fresh, crunchy apples. The kids were exhausted but exhilarated from all the exercise and excitement, and we were all looking forward to enjoying our bounty in the days to come.
As we drove home, I couldn't help but think about how much our family loves this time of year. There's something so special about the fall season - the cooler weather, the gorgeous foliage, the abundance of fresh, delicious produce. And for us, apple picking is one of those traditions that never fails to create lasting memories and strengthen our bond as a family.
So if you're looking for a fun and easy way to spend quality time with your loved ones this fall, consider giving apple picking a try. I promise you won't be disappointed. And who knows? It might just become a new family tradition that you'll cherish for years to come.
