Southampton and Brighton shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw that ended up being overshadowed by an ugly brawl between the two managers.
Russell Martin and Fabian Hurzeler locked horns on the touchline as tempers flared in the aftermath of a heated Premier League encounter.
The flashpoint came in the dying embers of the game as Martin and Hurzeler got up close and personal, the duo being restrained by their coaching staff and the fourth official before eventually separating.
'I know we've had some great battles on the touchline in the Premier League but the one between these two was something else,' said one observer.
As things caught up with Martin after the post-match briefings, a composed Southampton manager elaborated on what may have led to the brief but intense disagreements.
'To be honest, we were both pretty eager to get our message across as the game wore on. These were just two passionate people on the sidelines trying to get their team over the line.'
Hurzeler didn't let things slide without taking a shot, also. 'Southampton always think they can beat us, they've got the wrong idea – we're here to actually play football.'
It's clear that neither boss is prepared to back down as they look to lead their teams into future successes, despite the respect they seem to begrudgingly hold for each other.
