Google has rolled out a set of revolutionary AI-powered security features designed to protect Android users from the menace of phone theft. The new features, currently being rolled out globally, are expected to bring a significant drop in the number of smartphones that fall prey to thieves and hackers.
One of the most notable features is the ability to automatically lock a stolen device. Once a thief tries to move the phone away from its owner, the device can instantly lock, rendering it useless to the thief. This feature works by leveraging the device's AI capabilities to detect suspicious activity.
According to Google, the new features are part of the company's ongoing efforts to protect users' personal data. With phone theft on the rise, the tech giant has been working tirelessly to fortify its operating system against such threats. The new features, which include three new theft protection capabilities, are expected to bring a significant boost to the security of Android devices.
Another feature allows users to remotely sign out of their Google account in case their device is stolen. This feature works by sending a notification to the user's email address or alternate phone number, alerting them to a suspicious login attempt. From there, the user can take action to secure their account and prevent further unauthorized access.
In addition to these features, Google has also rolled out a new mechanism that prevents thieves from bypassing the device's lock screen. This feature, which works in conjunction with the device's biometric authentication (such as fingerprint or facial recognition), ensures that only the authorized owner can unlock the device.
The new features are available for Android users running Android 8.0 (Oreo) and above. To access the features, users need to go to their device's settings, then click on "Security" and finally select "Find My Device" to enable the features. The rollout of the new features is expected to be completed over the coming weeks.
Google's latest move is a testament to the company's commitment to protecting users' personal data. As phone theft continues to rise, the tech giant is working around the clock to fortify its operating system and stay one step ahead of thieves and hackers.
