Harry Wilson Scores Twice in Injury Time: The Most Epic Fulham Comeback of the Season

November 5, 2024

Fulham earned their fifth win of the English Premier League season as the Cottagers sealed a stunning 2-1 victory over Brentford, thanks to a supersub appearance from Welsh midfielder Harry Wilson. The victory comes after Wilson netted twice in added time to turn the Bees upside down and put smiles on the faces of his team mates at Craven Cottage on a day of drama.

The London derby match at Craven Cottage had not looked like it was going to be an exciting game, particularly after the first 45 minutes that ended with both teams going to the locker room still looking for their first goal. In the second half, the match turned from dull to extra-ordinary after Mathias Jensen opened the scoring for the visitors seven minutes after the resumption of the match.

Fulham equalized in the 60th minute and they could have gone ahead in the 70th and 75th minute but were unlucky. The Cottagers pushed harder in the final 5 minutes, though it seemed the game was heading to end with both teams sharing the spoils. The unthinkable happened as Antonio Rudiger was sent off in the 89th minute and this gave way for a dramatic finish.

The red card meant that Fulham would need a goal-line clearance to get to extra time but instead they secured the win to move higher on the log.

The 89th-minute red card changed the complexities of the game and at this point the match looked like it was going to head for extra time. All was changed when Neeskens Kebano picked out Fulham substitute Harry Wilson with less than 3 minutes to go. The speedy midfielder Wilson took advantage of the Brentford defense to gain possession and started dribbling down the left flank and then cut the ball into the box, dummying Pontus Jansson to leave the centre back reeling.

At this point fans at Craven Cottage were getting puzzled and thinking of what was about to happen as Brentford goalkeeper made an error to gift Wilson the ball then went on to round the stopper to get to the ball before firing into the empty net.

There were still more drama to unfold as even before the Craven Cottage faithful could celebrate Harry Wilson's first goal the 25-year old scored another in the 7 minutes of added time. This was the final blow to Brentford a team that was not only dumped out of the league in late extra minutes, an affair that will live on in the memories of London supporters.
