Honda is putting pressure on Red Bull to give Yuki Tsunoda a test run in its Formula 1 car, a move that could shake up the driver lineup for the 2024 season.
The Japanese manufacturer has been a long-time supporter of Tsunoda's career, and its partnership with Red Bull has been instrumental in him securing a seat at junior AlphaTauri/RB squad since 2021.
However, despite showing flashes of brilliance during his time at the Faenza-based outfit, Red Bull has never given Tsunoda a chance to showcase his skills in the top-tier team.
That could all change if Honda gets its way, with the manufacturer reportedly pushing hard for Tsunoda to be given a test run in the Red Bull car.
According to sources close to the team, Honda is keen to see Tsunoda get the opportunity to prove himself at the highest level, and is using its significant influence to try and make it happen.
While Red Bull has not commented publicly on the situation, insiders suggest that the team is not opposed to the idea of giving Tsunoda a test run, but may be hesitant to disrupt its existing driver lineup.
Tsunoda, meanwhile, is said to be eager to take on the challenge, and is confident that he has the skills and talent to make a real impact at the top level of Formula 1.
If the test run does go ahead, it will be a major development in the world of Formula 1, and could have significant implications for the driver lineup at Red Bull and beyond.
