LSU is back home after an eventful appearance in the Greenbrier Tip-Off last weekend in West Virginia. The Tigers (5-1) suffered their loss of the season, falling to Pitt 74-63 in the first round last Friday, then overcame a 20-point deficit to defeat Wofford 78-75 and followed that up with a thrilling win over Western Carolina 84-68.
The Tigers' comeback win over Wofford was a game-changer, as it showed the team's ability to bounce back from adversity and still come out on top. Despite trailing by 20 points at one point, LSU's offense suddenly came alive, with the team scoring 45 points in the second half to overcome the deficit.
Coach Matt McMahon was thrilled with his team's performance, particularly in the second half. "I was really proud of our guys for their resilience and their ability to stay focused," he said. "We knew it wasn't going to be easy, but we never gave up, and that's what ultimately made the difference."
The win over Western Carolina was just as impressive, as LSU's offense continued to click on all cylinders. The team shot 47.5% from the field and 38.5% from three-point range, with four players scoring in double figures.
With the Greenbrier Tip-Off behind them, the Tigers now turn their attention to Northwestern State, who they face at home. LSU will look to extend its winning streak and continue its momentum from the tournament. The game against Northwestern State is a non-conference matchup, but it's still an important one for the Tigers as they look to pad their resume for postseason play.
Coach McMahon knows that his team can't take Northwestern State lightly, despite their 2-4 record. "We know that Northwestern State is a tough opponent, and we can't underestimate them," he said. "We'll need to come out and play our best basketball if we want to come away with a win."
LSU is led by a strong offense, which is averaging 79.3 points per game. The team is also shooting 45.4% from the field and 34.5% from three-point range. Defensively, the Tigers are allowing 67.8 points per game and holding opponents to 42.2% shooting from the field.
The game against Northwestern State is set to tip off at 7 p.m. CT and will be streamed live on the SEC Network.
