India Shamed: 136-Year-Old Record No Team Wanted to Touch, Broken in Bengaluru Test

October 18, 2024

After rain washed out the entire play on Day 1, the Indian cricket team found itself in uncharted territory as they meekly surrendered to the New Zealand pacers on Day 2 of the opening Test match in Bengaluru. The shocking collapse saw India being bowled out for a mere 46 runs in their first innings, thus equalling an unwanted record that stood for 136 years.

New Zealand pacers Matt Henry and William O'Rourke wreaked havoc on the Indian batting lineup with their relentless pace and precision. The duo dominated the proceedings, as their ability to swing the ball in both directions left the Indian batsmen reeling.

The Indian innings lasted a mere 15 overs, as no batsman could muster up a partnership to save the team from further embarrassment. The lack of runs on the board could prove to be a massive hurdle for the Indian team, as they look to make a comeback in the match.

This is India's lowest total in the last two years, and it would be interesting to see how the team responds to this embarrassing defeat. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma will be under pressure to marshal his resources judiciously and inspire his team to make a comeback in the match.

For New Zealand, the start could not have been better. Their pacers have given them the perfect foundation to take control of the match, and it would be up to their batsmen to ensure that they capitalize on the advantage. With a comfortable lead on Day 2, the Kiwis would look to further reduce the deficit and pile up the runs to put the Indian team further on the back foot.
