Jayson Tatum scored 26 of his 28 points in the first half, and the Boston Celtics routed the Atlanta Hawks 123-93 on Monday night for their third straight win. Tatum also had nine assists and six rebounds and did not need to play in the fourth quarter because of the large lead.
The Celtics wasted no time asserting their dominance over the Hawks, as Tatum led the charge early on. Boston’s star forward dropped 15 points in the first quarter alone, as the team jumped out to a 35-23 lead. The Hawks struggled to contain Tatum and the Celtics’ high-powered offense, and they went into the half facing a 67-40 deficit.
The second half was more of the same, as the Celtics continued to pour it on and the Hawks struggled to find any rhythm. Boston outscored Atlanta 30-23 in the third quarter, taking a 97-63 lead into the final period. At that point, the game was well out of hand, and both teams saw fit to empty their benches and give their reserves some extended playing time.
Despite being unable to play in the fourth quarter, Tatum was still one of several Celtics to finish with a strong stat line. In addition to his 28 points, he also had nine assists and six rebounds. Meanwhile, teammate Jaylen Brown chipped in with 17 points, and Grant Williams added 14 points off the bench.
The loss marked the second consecutive game in which the Hawks have been blown out. Last Friday, they fell to the Los Angeles Lakers by a score of 121-101. The Hawks will look to get back on track when they face the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday night.
