Jodie Burrage put up an impressive fight against third seed Coco Gauff at the Australian Open, but ultimately fell short in a 6-3 7-5 defeat on Rod Laver Arena.
The Briton came into the match looking to cause an upset, and she certainly gave Gauff a run for her money.
Burrage started strong, taking an early lead in the first set and pushing Gauff to her limits.
However, the American's class eventually told, and she broke back to take the set 6-3.
The second set was an even tighter affair, with both players giving it their all in a bid to emerge victorious.
Burrage refused to give up, and she broke Gauff's serve to take a 5-4 lead and put herself in sight of a stunning comeback.
But Gauff is a top player for a reason, and she broke back to level the set at 5-5.
From there, she took control, breaking Burrage's serve once again to take the set 7-5 and seal the win.
Despite the defeat, Burrage can take heart from her performance, which will have given her valuable experience and exposure on the big stage.
For Gauff, the win sets her up for a intriguing matchup in the next round, as she bids to go all the way in the tournament.
The American will be looking to build on this momentum and make a deep run in the Australian Open.
As for Burrage, she will be looking to take the positives from this match and use them to improve her game and come back stronger in future tournaments.
