JT Toppin poured in 32 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as No. 12 Texas Tech rolled to a 93-55 win over reeling Oklahoma State on Saturday afternoon in Stillwater, Okla. The Red Raiders (20-5, 11-3 Big 12) led by 19 at the break and never looked back, pushing their advantage to as many as 41 points in the second half.
Texas Tech's victory marked its fifth in six games and kept the Red Raiders firmly in the hunt for the Big 12 title. They remain just a game back of first-place Kansas, which downed West Virginia earlier in the day.
For Oklahoma State, the loss was its seventh in eight games, and the Cowboys' chances of reaching the NCAA Tournament are growing increasingly slim. At 10-15 overall and 3-9 in the Big 12, they would need a miraculous turnaround to have any hope of securing a postseason berth.
Toppin, a star forward for the Red Raiders, was unstoppable throughout the contest. He connected on 12 of 19 field goals, including 4 of 7 from beyond the arc, to account for his 32 points. His 12 rebounds helped Texas Tech dominate the glass, 44-24.
The Red Raiders also received strong contributions from their supporting cast. Three other players scored in double figures, including Kevin McCullar, who chippped in 11 points and handed out seven assists. Texas Tech shot a blistering 57.1 percent from the field, including 47.1 percent from 3-point range.
Oklahoma State, on the other hand, struggled to find any offense. The Cowboys shot just 31.3 percent from the field and were a dismal 6 of 24 from 3-point range. Their leading scorer, Bryce Thompson, was held to just 13 points on 5 of 15 shooting.
The lopsided win for Texas Tech marked its largest margin of victory over Oklahoma State since a 96-59 triumph in 2002. The Red Raiders will look to keep their momentum going when they host TCU on Tuesday, while the Cowboys will try to rebound with a road game at Baylor.
