Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and Democratic rival Kamala Harris clashed repeatedly over Russia in the highly anticipated Presidential Debate, leaving many stunned by the intensity of the confrontation.
The debate, which was expected to be a clash of ideologies, quickly turned into a war of words as the two nominees locked horns over their respective stances on Russia and Ukraine.
At one point, Harris delivered a brutal takedown of Trump, warning him that Putin would 'eat you for lunch', a comment that was met with laughter and applause from the audience.
The exchange began when Trump attempted to defend his record on Russia, claiming that he had been 'tough' on the nation. However, Harris was quick to pounce, pointing out that Trump had repeatedly praised Putin and refused to take a hard line against Russian aggression.
'The fact is, Mr. Trump, that you have consistently shown weakness in the face of Russian aggression,' Harris said, her voice rising with passion. 'You have refused to take action against Russia's cyber attacks, and you have even gone so far as to say that Putin is a 'great leader'.
Trump fired back, claiming that Harris was 'lying' about his record on Russia, and that he had in fact been 'very tough' on the nation. However, Harris was not having it, and quickly produced a series of quotes and evidence that seemed to contradict Trump's claims.
'I think the American people deserve better than a president who is so clearly in the pocket of Vladimir Putin,' Harris said, her words dripping with disdain. 'And I think the American people deserve a president who will stand up to Putin, not cower in the face of his aggression.'
Trump's attempts to defend himself only seemed to make matters worse, as Harris seized on every opportunity to land another blow. At one point, Trump claimed that Harris was 'just trying to score points' with her criticism of Russia, to which Harris shot back that 'the only one trying to score points with Putin is you, Mr. Trump'.
As the debate drew to a close, it was clear that Harris had emerged victorious in the clash over Russia and Ukraine. Trump's attempts to defend his record had fallen flat, and Harris's brutal takedown had left him reeling.
In the end, it was Harris who delivered the final blow, stating that Putin would 'eat you for lunch' if Trump were to become president. It was a comment that seemed to sum up the entire debate, and left many wondering if Trump was truly prepared to take on the challenges of the presidency.
