Vice President Kamala Harris opened a media blitz by the Democratic ticket on Sunday by appearing on the popular 'Call Her Daddy' podcast about abortion, sexual abuse, and other issues that resonate with women, working in some digs at her GOP opponent along the way.
In the roughly 40-minute interview, Harris delved into personal and policy matters that are increasingly becoming cornerstones of the party's 2024 election strategy.
The vice president lambasted her opponent for seeking restrictions on access to reproductive healthcare, particularly for low-income women.
'That hypocrisy is something that we all need to be aware of and we all need to speak truth to,' Harris said.
During the conversation, Harris shed light on her plans for improving women's rights, education, and economic empowerment, all while indirectly jibing at her opponent's stance on certain issues.
In line with previous commitments from the Democratic ticket, the vice president emphasized her commitment to defending reproductive rights.
'I think what we saw with the Dobbs decision is just basically kind of the start,' she said.
When asked about recent instances of mass shootings and gun violence across the United States, Harris said, 'There are definitely some things we can and should be doing.
'I think we all know that some things – such as banning semi-automatic assault rifles – those things should be not just common sense, but accepted policy at this point.'
Harris praised the courage shown by women and marginalized communities, adding that they formed 'some of the strongest communities.' She, however, accepted that these communities often faced insurmountable challenges.
The vice president underscored her commitment to these communities and highlighted the ways her administration would provide support, adding that their fight is truly a priority in the administration.
'That is very important to me personally,' said Harris.
The national TV and radio appearances kick off ahead of a potential electoral year and help her boost her national profile.
The 'Call Her Daddy' podcast guest list was always notable due to the media figures involved and for making bold proclamations on the campaign trail.
The move by the administration's campaign points to how female concerns are indeed a significant goal in recent campaign strategies.
In the weeks and months to come, expect greater outreach to various high-profile names, ensuring her national profile is consistently showcased to boost eventual campaign plans.
