Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart expressed his disappointment in the fan energy and crowd noise after their 31-13 home win over the Auburn Tigers on Saturday. The Dawgs came into the game after a tough loss to Tennessee and needed a convincing win to get their season back on track.
Despite a strong performance from quarterback Stetson Bennett, who threw for over 200 yards, and the defense, which held Auburn to just 13 points, Smart felt the fans did not do enough to support their team. In his post-game press conference, Smart stated that he was 'disappointed in our fans for the first time' in his tenure as head coach.
The lack of energy and crowd noise was palpable throughout the game, with many fans taking to social media to express their frustrations with the team's performance. However, this criticism was not directed at the players or coaches but rather at the fans themselves, who failed to provide the necessary motivation and support.
This sentiment was echoed by many of the players, who felt that the crowd was subdued and lacked the usual intensity that comes with a big game like this. Linebacker Nakobe Dean stated, 'We need our fans to be more energetic and into the game. We feed off of their energy, and when they're not giving it to us, it can be tough to get going.'
Despite this, the team managed to bounce back from last week's loss and secure a much-needed win over a tough SEC opponent. Smart will be hoping that this win will spark his team to make a push for the top of the conference standings.
The 31-13 win marks the Bulldogs' fifth win of the season and puts them in a good position heading into the second half of the season. However, Smart knows that his team still has a long way to go if they want to achieve their goal of winning the SEC championship.
The Bulldogs will look to build on this momentum next week when they face off against the Vanderbilt Commodores. They will be hoping to have a more energetic and supportive crowd behind them as they look to continue their winning ways.
