Julen Lopetegui is set to have a crunch talk with Mohammed Kudus after the Ghanaian midfielder was handed his marching orders in the 86th minute of their 4-1 thrashing at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday afternoon.
The Wolves midfielder saw red after he lashed out at both Micky van de Ven and Pape Sarr, striking both players in the face in a moment of madness that summed up a difficult day for Julen Lopetegui's men.
The incident, which was sparked by a heated exchange between the three players, saw Kudus lose his cool and lash out at his opponents, leaving the referee with no choice but to give him his marching orders.
Julen Lopetegui was left frustrated by the incident, and the Wolves boss is set to have a stern talk with the midfielder to remind him of his responsibilities on the pitch.
Lopetegui was disappointed by the red card, but he refused to lay the blame solely on the player's shoulders.
"These things happen in football, and we need to move on from it," Lopetegui said in the post-match press conference.
"Of course, we are disappointed by the incident, but we can't let it affect our performance on the pitch. We need to focus on the games ahead and make sure we bounce back from this defeat.
"Kudus is a talented player, and we know that he has a lot to offer. But we also know that he has to be more careful on the pitch and avoid situations that can lead to red cards.
"We will speak with him and remind him of his responsibilities, but we also need to give him our support and help him to learn from his mistakes."
The red card was the third of Kudus' career, and it comes at a time when the midfielder is trying to establish himself as a regular starter for Wolves.
Kudus joined Wolves from Ajax in the summer transfer window, and he has made a promising start to his career in the Premier League.
However, the red card against Tottenham will be a setback for the midfielder, and he will have to work hard to regain the trust of his manager and teammates.
Lopetegui was also critical of the referee's decision to award Tottenham a penalty in the second half.
"I think it was a harsh decision," Lopetegui said.
"The referee made a mistake, and it cost us a goal. But we can't blame the referee for the defeat. We need to take responsibility for our own mistakes and move on from it."
The defeat against Tottenham was a setback for Wolves, but Lopetegui is confident that his team can bounce back from the defeat.
"We have a talented squad, and we are capable of beating any team in the Premier League," Lopetegui said.
"We need to focus on the games ahead and make sure we come back stronger. We will work hard to improve our performance and make sure we get the results we deserve."
