Things remain unclear as to whether star Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah will continue plying his trade in England come next season, with the 32-year-old continuing to impress amid what can be a career-defining campaign.
The uncertainty surrounding Salah's future at Anfield has led the Reds to scour the market for potential replacements, with a number of high-profile players being linked to the club in recent weeks.
According to reports, Liverpool are eyeing a surprise move for Real Madrid star Marco Asensio, who has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Asensio, who has been capped by Spain on several occasions, is believed to be frustrated with his lack of playing time under Carlo Ancelotti and could be tempted by the prospect of regular first-team football at Liverpool.
The 27-year-old winger has been in impressive form when given the opportunity, scoring several crucial goals for Los Blancos in recent seasons.
However, with the likes of Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo Goes firmly established as first-choice wingers at Real Madrid, Asensio may be forced to consider his options if he wants to play regularly.
Liverpool, who are known for their shrewd transfer business under Jurgen Klopp, could offer Asensio the perfect platform to revive his career and cement his place as one of the world's top wingers.
The Reds are believed to be preparing a significant bid for Asensio, who is valued at around 50 million euros by Real Madrid.
If the move is successful, it would represent a major coup for Liverpool, who would be signing a player with immense talent and experience at the highest level.
Salah, who has been one of Liverpool's most consistent performers in recent seasons, is yet to commit his future to the club, with his contract set to expire at the end of the 2024-25 campaign.
The Egyptian forward has been linked with a number of top European clubs, including Real Madrid and Barcelona, but Liverpool are keen to keep him at Anfield.
However, with the club facing significant competition for his signature, they may be forced to consider alternative options if they are to maintain their status as one of the Premier League's top teams.
Asensio, who has scored over 50 goals for Real Madrid since joining the club in 2014, would be an excellent addition to Liverpool's squad, providing pace, skill, and goals from wide areas.
The Spanish winger has also shown his ability to play in a variety of positions, including as a striker and in a more central midfield role.
This versatility would make him an attractive signing for Liverpool, who are known for their flexibility and ability to adapt to different systems and formations.
While the move is still in its infancy, Liverpool fans will be excited at the prospect of signing a player of Asensio's caliber, who could help to drive the club forward in the coming seasons.
