The Asus ExpertBook P5 has been hitting the headlines lately as one of the first laptops to be powered by Intel's highly-anticipated Core Ultra Series 2 processors. While this is indeed a notable achievement and a significant milestone for both Asus and Intel, our experience with the laptop tells a different story - one that highlights the potential pitfalls of being an early adopter.
Asus has been positioning the ExpertBook P5 as a premium business laptop designed to cater to professionals who demand seamless performance, impressive battery life, and sleek designs. On paper, the ExpertBook P5 checks all these boxes, boasting an Intel Core i9 Ultra Series 2 processor, up to 64GB of RAM, and a stunning 16-inch OLED display. However, in practice, the laptop falls short of expectations - particularly when it comes to battery life.
In our tests, the ExpertBook P5 struggled to deliver a full day of work, which is a major concern for professionals who are always on the move. With moderate usage, the laptop lasted around 6-7 hours, which is significantly lower than what we've come to expect from modern laptops. This is particularly surprising, given the power-efficient nature of Intel's new processor series.
This subpar battery performance is especially puzzling, considering the ExpertBook P5's sleek and lightweight design. The laptop weighs just 1.58kg, making it an excellent choice for frequent travelers. However, its lackluster battery life somewhat undermines this benefit.
It's worth noting that the ExpertBook P5 is far from being a bad laptop. In fact, it offers excellent performance, impressive display quality, and a range of connectivity options, including USB-C, USB-A, and HDMI. However, in a market where battery life is becoming increasingly important, the P5's shortcomings in this department are difficult to ignore.
In conclusion, while the Asus ExpertBook P5 is certainly an interesting laptop, it's clear that Lunar Lake laptops aren't created equal. Intel's new processor series holds a lot of promise, but manufacturers still have a lot to learn about optimizing performance, power efficiency, and battery life. If you're in the market for a new laptop, it's worth keeping an eye on future developments and waiting for more reviews before making a final decision.
