Sports Mole rounds up all of the latest injury and suspension news ahead of Monday's Premier League clash between Manchester United and Newcastle United. The Red Devils will be looking to bounce back from their recent defeat, but they will have to do so without some key players.
Manchester United's injury list is a long one, with several first-team players set to miss the game. The most notable absence will be that of Paul Pogba, who is still recovering from an ankle injury. The French midfielder has been out of action for several weeks and is not expected to return until next month.
Other players who are set to miss the game include Luke Shaw, who has a hamstring injury, and Nemanja Matic, who has a groin problem. The defensive duo of Eric Bailly and Phil Jones are also unlikely to feature, as they are still recovering from long-term injuries.
Newcastle United, on the other hand, have a relatively clean bill of health. The Magpies will be without the services of Matt Ritchie, who is suspended after picking up a red card in their last game. However, they will welcome back Allan Saint-Maximin, who has recovered from a hamstring injury.
Despite their injury woes, Manchester United are still expected to field a strong team. David de Gea will start in goal, with a back four of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire, and Ashley Young. The midfield trio of Fred, Scott McTominay, and Juan Mata will provide the creativity and work rate, while the front three of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, and Daniel James will look to provide the goals.
Newcastle United, on the other hand, will likely set up in a 5-4-1 formation. Martin Dubravka will start in goal, with a back five of Emil Krafth, Jamaal Lascelles, Federico Fernandez, Ciaran Clark, and Jetro Willems. The midfield quartet of Isaac Hayden, Jonjo Shelvey, Miguel Almiron, and Sean Longstaff will look to control the tempo of the game, while Joelinton will lead the line up front.
The game is set to be a closely contested one, with both teams looking to pick up all three points. Manchester United will be looking to bounce back from their recent defeat, while Newcastle United will be looking to build on their recent win. With the injuries and suspensions that both teams are dealing with, it will be interesting to see how they both line up and which team comes out on top.
