Marmoush Masterclass Stuns Bayern in 6-Goal Bundesliga Thriller

October 7, 2024

BERLIN (AP) – Omar Marmoush played the hero for Eintracht Frankfurt as he bagged a late equalizer, securing a thrilling 3-3 draw against Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich at Allianz Arena on Sunday.

The Egyptian striker’s second goal of the match sparked wild celebrations among Frankfurt supporters, who witnessed their team hold off the league’s top team in an enthralling encounter.

Bayern, riding high after last week’s impressive victory, entered the match as overwhelming favorites to take home the three points. However, Marmoush had other plans in store for Julian Nagelsmann’s side.

The 24-year-old’s first half strike canceled out Jamal Musiala’s seventh-minute opener, heading into halftime level at 1-1. The German midfielder gave Bayern an early lead with a beautiful left-footed strike from 20 yards out.

The hosts pushed hard to reclaim their advantage in the second half, with Marcel Sabitzer and Randal Kolo Muani extending the scoreline to 3-1 in favor of Bayern after 55 minutes.

But a gritty Frankfurt side showed resilience and remained firmly in the game. Daichi Kamada narrowed the deficit to 3-2 with just over 10 minutes remaining before setting the stage for Marmoush’s stunning equalizer.

Frankfurt coach Oliver Glasner introduced Sebastien Rode with just over 10 minutes left on the clock, a move that bore instant fruit. The visiting team adopted a more direct approach going forward, and their resolve eventually paid dividends.

With the clock winding down, Eintracht launched one final foray into Bayern’s penalty area, earning them a last-gasp corner kick that the Frankfurt faithful sensed could be their last hope of snatching an unlikely draw. The ensuing corner exposed Bayern’s fragile defense as Rode leaped above the competition to nod the ball downwards for Marmoush.

With his composure and shot precision resurfacing yet again, the in-form striker went from zero to hero, allowing the hard-fought draw and a big boost of momentum for Eintracht in the process. The result leaves Bayern atop the table but certainly tested their resolve ahead of their important Champions League encounter next week.
