BERLIN (AP) - In an electrifying Bundesliga showdown on Sunday, Eintracht Frankfurt managed to hold off the mighty Bayern Munich 3-3, thanks in large part to Omar Marmoush's second and decisive goal in the latter stages of the match.
The highly-anticipated contest lived up to its billing, with both teams showcasing incredible intensity and skill on the pitch.
Bayern Munich, who came into the match riding high on a wave of form and momentum, were expected by many to walk over their hosts. However, Frankfurt had other plans.
As the match got underway, it quickly became clear that the visitors would be in for a tough time. Frankfurt were firing on all cylinders, with their high-intensity press causing problems for Bayern's defense.
Despite their struggles, Bayern managed to keep their cool and maintain a level of composure that has become a hallmark of their team. And in the 23rd minute, they were rewarded with a goal that gave them the lead.
The strike seemed to momentarily stun Frankfurt, but they did not take long to regain their footing. Marmoush, who had been a thorn in Bayern's side throughout the match, was on hand to level the scores with his first goal just before halftime.
The 24-year-old Egyptian winger's equalizer gave Frankfurt the momentum that they had been seeking, and they rode that momentum all the way into the second half.
Bayern retook the lead in the 53rd minute, only for Frankfurt to draw level once again just five minutes later. The back-and-forth action had the crowd on the edge of their seats, and the drama continued all the way to the final whistle.
In the end, it was Marmoush who proved to be the hero for Frankfurt, netting his second goal of the match in the dying moments to secure a 3-3 draw.
For the visitors, the result may come as a disappointment, given their high expectations heading into the match. But Frankfurt will be riding high on their hard-fought result, and will undoubtedly view it as a massive confidence booster.
