Marquez Reveals Shocking Move to Block Ducati Dominance

December 28, 2024

Marc Marquez has made a stunning revelation about his involvement in Jorge Lorenzo’s move to Honda for the 2019 MotoGP season. According to Marquez, he personally recommended Lorenzo to Honda in an attempt to prevent Ducati from dominating the championship.

Lorenzo, a three-time MotoGP world champion, had joined Ducati in 2017 after parting ways with Yamaha. However, his time at Ducati was marked by struggles to adapt to the Desmosedici bike, and he was eventually released from his contract at the end of the 2018 season.

Marquez, who has been the dominant force in MotoGP in recent years, revealed that he saw Lorenzo as a threat to his own championship aspirations, even when the Spanish rider was struggling at Ducati. Marquez believed that if Lorenzo were to stay at Ducati and eventually find his form, he could pose a significant challenge to Marquez’s own title ambitions.

By recommending Lorenzo to Honda, Marquez hoped to neutralize the threat posed by Ducati and prevent them from dominating the championship. Marquez’s plan was to have Lorenzo join Honda and potentially become a teammate, which would have given Marquez an advantage in terms of having a strong teammate to support him in the championship.

However, things did not quite work out as planned for Marquez. Lorenzo did join Honda, but he struggled to find his form and was eventually forced to retire from racing due to injuries. Meanwhile, Ducati continued to be a strong force in MotoGP, with riders like Andrea Dovizioso and Danilo Petrucci consistently challenging for the championship.

Despite the outcome, Marquez’s revelation has shed new light on the intense rivalry and strategic maneuvering that goes on behind the scenes in MotoGP. It has also highlighted the respect that Marquez has for Lorenzo as a rider, and the threat that he perceived Lorenzo to be, even when the latter was struggling at Ducati.

The news has sparked a lot of debate among MotoGP fans, with some praising Marquez for his cunning and strategic thinking, while others have criticized him for trying to undermine Ducati’s chances of success. Regardless of one’s opinion on the matter, it is clear that Marquez’s revelation has added a new layer of intrigue to the already complex and fascinating world of MotoGP.
