Meghan Markle officially joined the Royal Family in 2018 after marrying Prince Harry, but her time as a working senior royal was a lot shorter than many first anticipated. Her transition into royal life was anything but smooth sailing as she had to face and overcome numerous challenges along the way.
As the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle was expected to follow the royal family's strict rules and protocols that have been in place for generations. However, her experience was far from ideal. The intense media scrutiny, the pressure to conduct royal duties, and the weight of living up to expectations all took a toll on her mental and emotional well-being.
In the midst of adjusting to her new role, Meghan Markle was also caring for her newborn son Archie while simultaneously dealing with the stresses of royal life. Given the rigorous demands placed upon her, it is not hard to imagine the immense strain she was under. Despite all this, the Royal Family appears to have snubbed her multiple times, starting from her early days as a royal.
Meghan Markle has famously spoken out about feeling isolated and unsupported during her time as a senior royal. The lack of support from the institution was made apparent in Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey. They spoke candidly about the numerous issues they faced, including the scrutiny over their wants and the harsh realities of the family's treatment towards them.
One major snub the Duchess reportedly faced was when the Royal Family did not invite her to the annual Sandringham Christmas gathering after her first year as the Duchess of Sussex. Only senior working members of the royal family are invited to the highly-exclusive event. Instead of being included in this tradition that typically marks a huge milestone in a new royal's life, Meghan Markle and her husband were forced to spend the holidays separately. This gesture effectively stripped her of a pivotal part of her first year as an official royal, setting a clear and disappointing precedent.
It is clear that the Royal Family's cold reception was exceptionally disheartening for Meghan Markle. Despite all the challenges she overcame to adjust to her new role in the institution, the family's unwillingness to accept her still takes a toll. As speculation continues to surround the circumstances leading up to their royal exit, Meghan Markle and her family will undoubtedly face continued scrutiny.
