Sterling Heights police are left scratching their heads after a bizarre discovery Thursday morning - a 4-foot-long alligator hiding under a car. The unusual find has raised more questions than answers, with authorities now working to determine who the reptile belongs to.
According to eyewitnesses, the alligator was spotted by a resident who had been out for a walk. Initially thinking it was a large branch or a toy, the individual soon realized that the object in question was, in fact, a living alligator. Panicked, the resident promptly contacted the authorities, who sprang into action.
Responding officers were met with a surreal scene - the alligator, estimated to be around 4 feet in length, was calmly sitting under a car, seemingly unbothered by the commotion it had caused. Animal control was promptly called to the scene, and the alligator was safely secured and taken into custody.
As news of the unusual discovery began to spread, residents in the area expressed a mix of shock and amusement. "I've lived in Sterling Heights my whole life, and I've never heard of anything like this happening," said one local resident. "I mean, who expects to find an alligator under a car?"
The Sterling Heights Police Department has issued a statement assuring residents that the situation is under control and that the alligator is being safely cared for. However, the department is still seeking information on who the alligator belongs to.
"We understand that exotic pets can sometimes get out of hand, but it's the responsibility of the owner to ensure that they are properly cared for and do not pose a risk to the community," said a spokesperson for the department. "We urge anyone with information on who this alligator belongs to come forward and assist us in this investigation."
As the investigation continues, residents in the area are advised to remain vigilant and report any further unusual sightings. In the meantime, the 4-foot-long alligator remains in the care of local animal control, awaiting reunification with its owner - whoever that may be.
