The Film Association of Malawi (Fama) has officially begun a new chapter with the handover of leadership from the previous committee led by Gift Sukez Sukali to the new National Executive Committee (Nec) headed by President Dorothy Kingston.
The ceremony, which took place in Lilongwe, marked a significant milestone for the association as it ushered in a new era of growth and development. Kingston, a renowned fashionista and entrepreneur, expressed her gratitude to the outgoing president for a seamless handover, saying it was time for the new leadership to get started with work.
The handover was particularly notable as Sukali had flown in from the United States of America to pass the baton, demonstrating his commitment to ensuring a smooth transition. Kingston praised the outgoing president for his efforts, acknowledging the importance of understanding where the predecessors left off in order to build upon their achievements and forge a new path forward.
At the heart of Kingston's vision for Fama is the focus on growth and development, with an emphasis on overcoming challenges through teamwork. Recognizing that Fama is more than just an organization - it is a community and a family bonded together by the passion for film - Kingston stressed the importance of transparency and accountability in achieving success.
The new president's ambition for Fama is lofty, aiming to build an industry that produces high-quality films capable of conquering the international stage. This vision is supported by the new Nec, which includes Deputy President Gilbert Moyo, Secretary Ignatious Kaphinde, Vice Secretary Charles Levison, and Treasurer General Daud Shaib.
Sukali, in his advice to the new committee, encouraged them to fulfill their manifesto and involve other companies to grow the association. He assured that the previous leadership would always be available to offer guidance wherever necessary, demonstrating a commitment to the association's continued success.
Kingston's ascension to the presidency follows her victory over Flora Suya in recent polls. Her tenure is expected to bring about significant changes and developments in the Malawi film industry, with many anticipating her leadership to propel Fama to new heights.
As Fama embarks on this new journey, the emphasis on teamwork, transparency, and accountability is set to play a crucial role in the association's quest for excellence. With Kingston at the helm, the future of the Malawi film industry looks promising, and fans of local cinema have much to look forward to in the coming years.
