Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali trolled Libya’s national team for their time wasting antics against the Super Eagles in Friday’s Group D, AFCON 2025 qualifiers in Uyo.
The Eagles had to contend with time wasting from the visitors who fell down at the slightest tackles, sparking heated reactions from Nigerian players and fans alike.
The antics by Libya led to numerous stoppages in play, with the referee being forced to halt the game on several occasions to attend to Libyan players who were pretending to be injured.
Speaking on their tactics, Nwabali jokingly referred to the Libyan players as “drama queens” on his social media handle, while also releasing a series of photos that showed Libyan players falling dramatically on the pitch.
“I was impressed by the theatrics displayed by our opponents. They would make a meal out of every tackle, and even the slightest touch would send them crashing to the ground,” he quipped.
Nwabali also praised the Nigerian players for maintaining their cool and composure in the face of the antics by the Libyan players.
“We knew we had to stay focused and avoid getting provoked by their tactics. Our goal was to get the win, and that’s exactly what we did,” he said.
The Nigerian team eventually secured a 3-1 win over Libya, thanks to goals from Victor Osimhen, Moses Simon, and Kelechi Iheanacho.
The win helped the Super Eagles maintain their top spot in Group D of the AFCON 2025 qualifiers, with 12 points from four games.
Libya, on the other hand, remains third in the group with four points, having picked up just one win in four games.
Nigeria will face Guinea-Bissau in their next qualifier match, while Libya takes on Equatorial Guinea.
