New Enyimba striker and 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner Brown Ideye has revealed that several Nigerian players abroad are itching to return to the Nigeria Premier Football League just as Ahmed Musa, Shehu Abdullahi and him have done this season, The PUNCH reports.
According to Ideye, the move by Ahmed Musa, Shehu Abdullahi, and himself to join the NPFL is being seen as a massive coup for the league, with many other players now eager to follow suit.
Ideye joined Enyimba until the end of the 2024/25 season, becoming the latest high-profile player to make the switch to the NPFL.
The NPFL has been on the rise in recent years, with improved infrastructure, increased funding, and a growing fan base, making it an attractive destination for Nigerian players plying their trade abroad.
The return of top players like Ideye, Musa, and Abdullahi is expected to boost the league's profile and competitiveness, potentially leading to more Nigerian players making the switch.
Ideye's move to Enyimba is a testament to the growing appeal of the NPFL, and his experience and skills are expected to be a major asset to the team.
As the NPFL continues to grow and develop, it will be interesting to see how many more Nigerian players currently playing abroad will make the move back home to join the league, and what impact this will have on the sport in Nigeria.
