It has been over a decade since the popular ITV show Benidorm first aired on our screens. The sitcom, which was created by Derren Litten, followed the lives of several groups of British holidaymakers who spent their vacation at the fictional Solana all-inclusive hotel in the heart of Benidorm.
The show became a staple of British television, attracting millions of viewers each week. With its unique blend of witty one-liners, physical comedy, and wacky characters, Benidorm quickly gained a loyal following.
But what has happened to the cast of the popular show since it ended? From swapping the sunny beaches of Benidorm for the cobbled streets of Weatherfield to becoming award-winning actors in their own right, the cast of Benidorm have certainly been busy. Let’s take a look where the cast of Benidorm are now.
Tony Maudsley (Kenneth) – Following his stint as the flamboyant and flirtatious hairdresser Kenneth in Benidorm, Tony Maudsley joined the cast of another popular ITV show, This Is England. He played the role of a father of a teenage boy and became embroiled in an abusive relationship with his girlfriend.
Steve Pemberton (Mick Garvey) – Comedian Steve Pemberton joined the cast of Benidorm in 2012, playing the role of Mick Garvey, the wheeler-dealer who often found himself in various scrapes. Since leaving the show, Pemberton has continued with his stand-up comedy circuit and has appeared in numerous television dramas, including Dr Who and Whitechapel.
Janine Duvitski (Crystal Hennessy-Vass) – Crystal Hennessy-Vass was a loveable and free-spirited new-ageist hen who swapped her Benidorm adventures for a seemingly quieter life. Actress Janine Duvitski has had an illustrious career, dating back to the late 1970s. Since her time on Benidorm, she has continued to make appearances in various British shows.
Benidorm actor Tim Healy, who played Les/Leslie Connelly, passed away in July 2021. He is still remembered fondly for his contribution to the show and for his charity work throughout his lifetime.
Jacqueline Ferguson (Chalet Maid) took to the stage since the show ended and has become a highly respected Scottish actress. Maxine Mazumder who played Rebecca Smith also became a stage actress and took part in musical theatre performances.
Sherrie Hewson (Joyce Temple-Savage) remains a fan favourite and continues to make appearances in numerous British soap operas and popular dramas, including Happy Valley.
Ben Richards who played Dominic in ITV comedy drama Benidorm is a serious method actor and received the Variety Award in 2011 and has continued to portray a various and dark characters on TV.
Benidorm’s impact on British television should not be underestimated. The show provided a much-needed boost to the struggling hotel industry in Benidorm and paved the way for the creation of other seaside resorts.
