In his first game with Green Bay, veteran kicker Brandon McManus nailed a 45-yard field goal as time expired, leading the Packers to a 24-22 victory over the Houston Texans on Sunday.
The highly anticipated matchup between these two teams did not disappoint, as the energy in the stadium was electric throughout the game. The Packers were coming off a much-needed bye week, while the Texans were looking to build off their momentum from Week 6.
The game began with a strong start from the Texans, who quickly established their running game and moved the ball down the field. However, the Packers defense held strong, and the Texans were forced to settle for a field goal attempt on their opening drive.
The Packers received the ball and began to move down the field, with a combination of passes and runs from quarterback Jordan Love and running back Aaron Jones. The drive stalled, but the Packers were able to pin the Texans deep in their own territory with a punt.
The Texans began to move the ball down the field once again, but a costly fumble by running back Dameon Pierce gave the Packers possession at the Texans 30-yard line. The Packers took advantage of the turnover, scoring a touchdown on a 5-yard pass from Love to wide receiver Jayden Reed.
The Texans responded with a scoring drive of their own, capped off by a 1-yard touchdown run from quarterback C.J. Stroud. However, the extra point attempt was blocked by the Packers, giving them a slim 7-6 lead entering halftime.
The second half saw the Texans come out strong, scoring on their opening drive to take a 12-7 lead. However, the Packers responded with a scoring drive of their own, and the back-and-forth battle continued throughout the second half.
With just over two minutes remaining in the game, the Texans drove down the field and kicked a 38-yard field goal to take a 22-21 lead. However, the Packers were not done yet. With 1:28 remaining, Love led the Packers down the field, and McManus came in to attempt the game-winning field goal.
As the clock expired, McManus nailed the 45-yard field goal, securing a 24-22 victory for the Packers. The Packers celebrated the thrilling finish, and McManus was mobbed by his teammates in celebration of his clutch performance in his first game with the team.
