Pakistan suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of England in the First Test held at the Multan Cricket Stadium in Multan, Pakistan. The once-dominant team in the world of cricket seems to have lost its grip on the game. The Test match that went on for almost five days ended in an embarrassing loss for Pakistan.
Pakistan started the match with amazing batting by scoring 579 runs in their first innings. However, the momentum was short-lived as the team was bowled out in their second innings for a paltry 80 runs. England took advantage of the swinging ball and finished the match with an innings win, grabbing a crucial 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
The English side's win was orchestrated by the brilliant batting display of Zack Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, and Harry Brook, who all contributed significantly to the English total. Pakistani bowlers couldn't contain the pace of the opposition and allowed them to score freely. They ultimately struggled in the match by not letting England complete the massive total.
England finally reached the required target with their four top-order batters scoring a half-century each to pile more misery on Pakistan. Their spectacular all-around display and Pakistan's pathetic effort finally resulted in the Pakistani team getting bowled out by the English Side for a paltry total.
The Multan Test marked England's first Test win in Pakistan since the 2000-01 series. For Pakistan, this Test marks their first-ever innings defeat despite putting up more than 500 runs on the board in the first innings. Despite starting as favorites to win the Test and having set England a difficult target, Pakistan could not maintain their momentum throughout the game. As a result, they lost with an innings deficit for the first time in their Test history of 147 years.
This embarrassing defeat to England raises several questions about Pakistan's future in Test cricket. Despite having exceptional batting skills, they are struggling with their game plan and ultimately have to taste the bitter pills of disappointment and regret.
